For its 7th edition, the Triennial of Tournai strenghtens its commitment for the contemporay fiber creation.

This year, the International Triennial of Contemporary Fibers Arts is not dedicated to one country in particular as the two lasts editions which were in favour of Japan and then Italy.

The fifth continents : Woven world

Fourty artists coming from the fifth continents and from the French community of Belgium have accepted to take part in the Triennial. This year, all the communities are honoured in order to share an international cultural richness without borders. The artists’ pieces are showed in prestigious places as the Cathedral and the Belfry of Tournai. The artists are taking over the Fine Arts and tapestry Museum too, the Town hall crypt, the Episcopal Seminary Church, the Halle aux draps (woollen market hall), the Red Fort and the Home Culture.

« Continere »

An international competition called “Continere” was announced all around the world and no less 180 runners coming from 23 countries have responded to the call. A demanding panel of judges has selected 29. The pieces considered are showed on the stairs of the Halle aux Draps. Other works produced during the competition are showed at the Cultural Center of Péruwelz.

The Triennial Off

The Triennial Off proved it could be successful with its musical works. Their universal language and borrowing from the repertoire of the “musiques du monde” reinforce the humanist dimension of the event. The Folon Foundation takes part in the Triennial by a tapestry exhibition of this recognized Belgian artist. That “exhibition inside the exhibition” takes place at the Halle aux Draps. Last but not least, the CRECIT shows its contemporary upright loomed tapestries created in its workshops at Tournai.
