March 30, 31 and April 1, OMA and Artex, with the participation of the Florence French Institute, have organized the Journées Européennes des Métiers d’Art in Tuscany, Italy. This year, France, Italy, Spain and Switzerland have opened the doors of their arts and crafts workshops to the public.

For the first time, the Journées Européennes des Métiers d’Arts take a European dimension. During three open days, to draw the general public’s attention to the arts and crafts, events, exhibitions and workshops have simultaneously taken place in four European countries.

In each country, rules are the same. To bring the public in their workshops, craftsmen involved in the event, stick an official poster on their windows, and then introduce their jobs, make demonstrations, tell anecdotes…

This year, Tuscany offers a guided tour to discover the masters of Filistrucchi’s secrets (since 1720, make-up, wigs and stage special effects), the emotion of “coin minting”, in the tradition of making the old “florin”; the Penko Goldsmith laboratory near Piazza Duomo in Forence or the chance to see the restoration techniques on paper, wood and precious materials.
