He had the opportunity to meet the renowned wood turner Richard Raffan (Australia). This meeting brought him much in the domains of design and production. He stays in contact with him and will be his studio assistant in France and the United States. Later his work will extend to sculpture.
In 2005, Benoit was invited to a wood turning symposium in Provo (USA) during which he spoke and gave demonstrations. He learned enormously during this trip and met numerous colleagues from all over the world. That will drive him to be invited once again abroad to give speeches and demonstrations.
In 2006, selected with 11 other young artisans among more than 200 participants, he was winner of the national competition “Young Creators” administrated by Ateliers d’Art in France; also he received at the end of 2006 the grand departmental prize of métiers of art.
Benoit Averly turns and sculpts wood. In the formation of his pieces he is attentive to lines and forms. He enjoys strong contrast, the play of shadows, white and black. Inspired by architecture, he constructs his pieces with rigor and awareness in a contemporary spirit.
His creations, installation pieces or wall hangings for interior decorations integrate themselves well in both classic and modern interiors.
