Utility: Auxiliary tool used in spinning, having the role to hold the bundle of fibres

Description: Distaff made up of a fir tree rod, cylinder shape; octogonal, quadrilateral in the middle, with the top cut in spira. The rod is decorated here and there with two concentric circles. The two wings are mounted through a carving, with the hel of a wooden wedge. On the two wings are simmetrically applied geometrical motifs like: triangle, rectangle. In the superio part of the wings can be visible the cross motif, Latin type. The two wings are bordered both on the interior towards the rod an owards exterior by zigzags. On the wings is also carved the year the distaff was made: 1919 and also most probably a name
“Ană Sarshoi”; only in pencil : „Sirean” şi „I şt is ie”.

Economic sector: Worked in a rural workshop, in homestead; On the nowadays market this type of object can be found, the price varying between 350-500 lei (according the meticulosit
of motifs), but unfortunatelly the interest for buying this kind of object decreased, having these days mostly a decorative value. Anyway, there are a few buyers among the specialists or among the museums. In our country, at this moment are about 30 woodcarvers, the number of persons who makes this kind of distaff being about 35-40. This type of object is no longe manufactured because the traditional craft of spinning is in danger of disappearance.
